The lasso is the composition: a wide arc of gold sweeping from the figure's raised arm across the upper field and back, the rope mid-spin, the circle not yet closed. Below and to the left, a longhorn anchors the lower register , smaller, stilled, the target of all that kinetic energy overhead.
The loop has not landed. That incompletion is the point. The work holds the moment before the act resolves, when skill and chance are still the same thing. The cowboy's craft lives in the air, in the shape the rope makes before gravity and intention bring it down.
Gold here is not ornament but physics , a material that catches light the way a spinning rope catches space.
