I35 Seam is an original work in gold leaf on paper, 30 × 40 × 2 inches , a large-scale abstract built from a dense network of intersecting lines covering the full picture plane edge to edge.
The lines are not drawn but accumulated, each one built from repeated small marks in Auruscript that give the strands a rope-like, chain-like texture when viewed closely. The network is more regular and tightly gridded toward the center-left, becoming branching and irregular as it moves outward, so the composition breathes without opening. In the lower right, two overlapping diamond outlines sit isolated from the field , a quiet geometric anchor against the surrounding density.
I-35 runs the spine of the American interior, a seam stitched repeatedly over the same corridor of land. The work maps nothing literally, but the visual logic of intersection, node, and branch carries the weight of infrastructure and the way routes calcify into necessity. The gold does not celebrate the road. It renders it as what it is: a system pressed into a surface under pressure.
