The figure is not drawn but excavated: a human form with arms extended, defined entirely by the absence of gold in a field of densely packed calligraphic marks that cover everything surrounding it. The face opens as a dark void within that golden field , a silence at the center of all that inscription.
The marks write the world into being and leave the body as the one thing that cannot be written. What surrounds the figure is language, or something that carries language's structure. What the figure is made of is the black ground beneath it. To be a body here is to be the gap in the text, the space that meaning builds itself around rather than through.
