Celestaurus is an original work in gold leaf on paper, 16 × 20 × 1 inches.
The horns are the work's governing force: wide, curved, built from large calligraphic letterforms that read as script before they read as anatomy, their arc framing a scattering of star-shaped marks in the dark field above. The head itself is assembled from tighter, denser lines of text that follow the animal's contours, so the form emerges through the weight of language rather than any drawn edge.
The bull is one of the oldest figures in the sky and on the ground simultaneously , a constellation and a creature, mythic weight carried in a recognizable body. Here both registers are made of the same material: script, repeated and accumulated until it becomes horn, becomes eye socket, becomes presence. The title fuses the celestial and the taurine into a single word, and the work does the same, collapsing zodiac and animal into one gold form that is neither and both.
