Aurelia Cerebralis is an original work in gold leaf on paper, 18 × 24 inches.
The brain occupies the position of the jellyfish bell, its gyri and sulci rendered with the patience of anatomical illustration , the folds that hold thought become the dome that moves through water. From that crown, tentacles descend in three registers: fine filaments, beaded strands weighted at intervals, and broad ribbon forms that drift and trail, filling the lower field with the unhurried motion of something that has no skeleton and needs none.
Two organisms built on entirely different logics , one that thinks, one that drifts , are fused into a single coherent form. The jellyfish survives by letting the current decide. The brain insists on deciding. Pressed together in gold on black, the hybrid does not resolve that tension. It holds both natures at once, asking whether intelligence is a kind of propulsion or a kind of weight.
