Stormy Stillness is an original work in gold leaf on paper, 18 × 24 × 1.5 inches.
Rain falls as thin, insistent vertical marks across the entire field, and the figure at the center holds an umbrella against all of it , standing rather than moving, the posture neither braced nor defeated but simply present. The ground below reflects what falls from above, so the figure is caught between two versions of the same storm.
The umbrella draws a boundary between self and weather, but the rain continues through the image regardless , above, below, around. The stillness in the title is not the stillness of shelter. It is the stillness of someone who has stopped trying to outrun something and chosen instead to stand inside it, which is its own kind of resolution.
