I created this work using gold leaf on paper, building up the composition through the careful application of the metal to the surface. The finished piece measures 18 × 24 × 1.5 inches. When viewers encounter this work, they see the result of gold leaf applied to paper—the interplay between the reflective metal surface and the paper substrate beneath. The gold leaf catches and reflects light, creating shifts in luminosity and tone across the surface. This is what I made: a work where the material properties of gold leaf on paper define the visual experience.
