Cosmic Coil is an original work in gold leaf on paper, 18 × 24 × 1.5 inches.
The spiral is one of the few forms that appears at every scale: in the chambered nautilus, in storm systems, in the arms of galaxies too large to see whole. Selin's Auruscript practice renders this form in gold on black, and the choice of materials refuses to assign it a scale. It is enormous or intimate depending on where attention lands.
The coil begins tight, almost compressed, and releases outward across the field without arriving anywhere. That is the nature of the form: it is motion that never becomes departure. The black ground holds the negative space between each revolution, and those intervals carry as much weight as the gold line itself — the pause between turns is where the eye learns the rhythm before the next arc confirms it.
One-of-a-kind original. Gold leaf on paper. 18 × 24 × 1.5 inches.
A work about the shape growth makes when it has nowhere to go but outward.
